Key Responsibilities

As a seasoned leader, you will play a crucial role in addressing intricate challenges and influencing the trajectory of Alberta Health.

Reporting to the Executive Director of the Strategic Policy & Initiatives Branch, the Director of Legislative Services is tasked with managing legislative planning, development, and review, while also delivering complex project management services to the Minister and the Department of Health. Additionally, this role encompasses legislative planning support for the Department of Mental Health and Addiction.

The Director will oversee all legislative services within the Ministry of Health, which includes the preparation of legal documents such as bills, regulations, Ministerial Orders, and Recommendations for Order in Council, as well as delegation instruments mandated by legislation. This position is pivotal in providing legislative support across a diverse array of departmental program areas.

In this capacity, you will need to comprehend intricate legislative issues, principles, and processes, offering timely and expert-level guidance on legislative matters.

Qualifications

A university degree in a relevant field such as Public Administration, Law, or Political Science, accompanied by a minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Experience in identifying legislative issues and providing strategic advice.
  • Proficiency in drafting legislative documents.
  • Knowledge of policy development and legislative planning processes.
  • Strong leadership capabilities to guide and mentor staff.
  • Exceptional communication skills for conveying complex issues clearly.
  • Consultation expertise.
  • A Master's Degree is an asset.
