Position Overview

We are seeking an Employed Student Nurse at Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)

Vancouver Coastal Health is in search of an Employed Student Nurse to contribute to the healthcare team. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience in a clinical environment.

The Employed Student Nurse (ESN) program is designed to provide nursing students with a paid employment opportunity, allowing them to accumulate up to 400 hours of practical experience. As an ESN, you will deliver direct nursing care to both stable and unstable patients, aligning with your current level of education and training in your nursing program. Support from ESN educators and unit staff will facilitate your transition from student to newly graduated nurse.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

To qualify for this position, candidates must:

  • Have completed the second year of a BScN program or equivalent prior to starting as an ESN.
  • Have finished at least one Adult Medical or Surgical rotation in their BScN program before commencing as an ESN.
  • Be actively enrolled in a recognized nursing education program in British Columbia and maintain good standing.
  • Be registered or eligible for registration with BCCNM as an Employed Student Registrant.
  • Hold certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (Healthcare Provider CPR).

  • Strong oral and written communication abilities.
  • Effective organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficiency in interacting with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Physical capability to fulfill the responsibilities of the role.
