About the Role
PCL Construction is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Superintendent to join our team in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. As a key member of our construction team, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Management: Work closely with project managers to ensure the successful delivery of projects, including planning, coordination, and execution.
- Site Supervision: Supervise and direct a team of construction professionals, including direct and indirect reports, to ensure the safe and efficient execution of projects.
- Communication: Effectively communicate with clients, consultants, trades, and internal stakeholders to ensure that project requirements are met and expectations are exceeded.
- Problem-Solving: Proactively identify, manage, and resolve potential problems, work conflicts, and schedule challenges to ensure project success.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with construction/project managers and project teams to develop and implement project plans, schedules, and resource-loaded three-week lookahead schedules.
- Quality Control: Oversee and manage the development and implementation of Project Execution Plans (PEPs) and ensure compliance with budget and quality standards.
- Risk Management: Review and understand contracts and subcontracts, identify and mitigate risks, and maximize opportunities to ensure financial targets are met.
- Team Leadership: Lead and run effective site meetings, present at client meetings, and develop and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
Requirements
- Education: Journeyman certificate or undergraduate/engineering degree in a related discipline. NCSO designation required (IND); enrollment in the Gold Seal program (CDN) preferred.
- Experience: 15 years of progressive field supervision experience preferred.
- Skills: In-depth knowledge of construction industry and company operations, including building materials, construction specifications, and methods and procedures. Understanding of project scope and ability to apply intermediate-complex engineering principles and embed solutions in construction plans and schedules.
- Personal Qualities: Demonstrated conflict-resolution skills, problem-solving abilities, and professional judgement. Ability to develop and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
