This role is essential in enhancing our breeding programs and ensuring the health and productivity of our livestock.

In this position, your responsibilities will include:

• Developing and implementing improved practices for feeding, housing, sanitation, and disease control to enhance animal welfare during the breeding cycle.
• Observing and assessing the reproductive status of animals to select optimal candidates for breeding.
• Engaging in crossbreeding initiatives to achieve desired genetic traits.
• Conducting thorough heat checks to identify animals ready for breeding.
• Performing artificial insemination using established veterinary techniques.
• Evaluating and refining breeding practices while creating effective breeding schedules.
• Managing farrowing tasks, including meticulous record-keeping of growth metrics and overseeing the birthing process.
• Monitoring the health of sows and piglets during critical periods and providing necessary treatments.
• Processing piglets, which includes tail docking, ear tattooing, vaccination, and castration of males.
• Applying veterinary knowledge to ensure the health of animals throughout breeding and farrowing.
• Overseeing the introduction of new feed during weaning to guarantee proper nutrition.
• Assessing environmental conditions to identify potential health risks and recommending improvements for animal welfare.
• Streamlining the weaning process to minimize stress on animals and enhance their transition.
• Ensuring compliance with company protocols and biosecurity measures throughout the breeding process.
• Identifying underperforming animals and administering appropriate care and treatment.
• Staying informed on industry advancements and utilizing genetic insights to enhance breeding efficiency and productivity.
• Conducting daily health assessments of animals, collaborating with the Animal Health team, and making critical decisions regarding animal welfare.

To excel in this role, candidates should possess:

• A degree in Animal Science, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Medicine, Zootechnics, or a related field.
• A proactive and self-driven approach to work.
• A strong work ethic and the ability to collaborate effectively with others.
• Flexibility to work rotating weekend shifts.
