Position Overview

Kiewit is in search of a skilled Civil Quality Laboratory Supervisor to oversee our quality control efforts in the construction sector. The successful candidate will possess a robust background in civil engineering and materials analysis, demonstrating expertise in managing laboratory functions and upholding stringent quality benchmarks.

District Overview

Kiewit's Western Canada District operates from Burnaby, British Columbia, focusing on substantial civil engineering projects that encompass earthworks, transportation, road construction, bridges, water management, and subterranean utilities. We value dedicated professionals who are passionate about construction and are ready to engage in hands-on work.

Location

This position is site-based in Squamish, BC, with potential travel allowances for the selected candidate.

Key Responsibilities

Laboratory Management:

  • Direct the daily functions of the quality control laboratory.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and quality assurance standards.
  • Oversee the maintenance and calibration of laboratory instruments.
  • Establish and uphold laboratory policies and procedures.

Quality Assurance:

  • Formulate and execute quality assurance plans and protocols.
  • Conduct evaluations on construction materials including soil, concrete, asphalt, and aggregates.
  • Interpret test outcomes and compile comprehensive reports.
  • Identify and resolve quality-related challenges in the construction workflow.

Team Leadership:

  • Guide and mentor laboratory technicians and support staff.
  • Delegate tasks and oversee laboratory operations.
  • Encourage a cooperative and efficient working atmosphere.

Project Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with project managers and site engineers to guarantee quality standards are upheld throughout construction projects.
  • Offer technical guidance and expertise to project teams.
  • Participate in project meetings, providing updates on quality assurance initiatives.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain precise and thorough records of all testing activities.
  • Prepare and present quality assurance reports to management and stakeholders.
  • Ensure all documentation aligns with industry standards and regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in a quality control laboratory within the construction field, including at least two years in a supervisory role.
  • CCIL certification as a concrete tester is required.
  • Experience with RCC concrete is essential.
  • Strong understanding of materials testing protocols and standards (CSA, ASTM, AASHTO, etc.).
  • Exceptional leadership and team management capabilities.
  • Proficiency in laboratory software and data analysis tools.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and adept problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Certification as a Quality Manager (CQM) and/or a P. Eng or equivalent is preferred.

Compensation:

Base compensation ranges from $95,000 to $110,000 annually, with actual pay subject to variation based on factors such as education, experience, skills, and location. Additional compensation may be available depending on project assignments.
