Position Overview

Kiewit is in search of a seasoned Civil Quality Laboratory Supervisor to oversee our operations. The successful candidate will possess a robust background in civil engineering and materials evaluation, demonstrating a solid history of managing laboratory functions while upholding quality benchmarks.

District Overview

Kiewit's Western Canada District is based in Burnaby, British Columbia, focusing on substantial civil projects that include earth moving, transportation, roadways, bridges, water resources, and underground utilities. We seek dedicated individuals who are passionate about construction and willing to engage in hands-on work.

Responsibilities

Laboratory Management:

Direct the daily activities of the quality control laboratory. Ensure adherence to all safety protocols and quality regulations. Maintain and calibrate laboratory instruments and equipment. Develop and enforce laboratory policies and procedures.

Quality Assurance:

Formulate and execute quality assurance plans and protocols. Conduct assessments on construction materials including soil, concrete, asphalt, and aggregates. Analyze test outcomes and compile comprehensive reports. Detect and resolve any quality-related issues during the construction process.

Leadership:

Supervise and mentor laboratory technicians and support staff. Allocate tasks and manage the workflow within the laboratory. Promote a collaborative and efficient work atmosphere.

Project Collaboration:

Collaborate closely with project managers and site engineers to ensure quality standards are upheld in construction projects. Provide technical guidance and expertise to project teams. Participate in project meetings and report on quality assurance activities.

Documentation and Reporting:

Maintain precise and thorough records of all testing activities. Prepare and present quality assurance reports to management and clients. Ensure all documentation meets industry standards and regulations.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline. At least 5 years of experience in a quality control laboratory within the construction sector, including two years of supervisory experience. Must hold CCIL certification as a concrete tester. Experience with RCC concrete is essential. Strong understanding of materials testing protocols and standards (CSA, ASTM, AASHTO, etc.). Excellent leadership and team management capabilities. Proficient in laboratory software and data analysis tools. Keen attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills. Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities. Certification as a Quality Manager (CQM) or a P. Eng or similar is preferred.

Regular and reliable attendance. Ability to work productively and meet deadlines. Effective communication and interaction with supervisors, employees, and others in a team environment. Commitment to performing work safely and effectively, following all instructions and policies. Flexibility to work at various locations and under varying conditions.

Compensation and Benefits:

Base compensation ranges from $95,000 to $110,000 annually, subject to variations based on education, experience, skills, and location. Additional compensation may be available depending on project assignments.
