Kiewit is in search of a skilled Civil Quality Lab Manager to oversee our quality control efforts. The successful candidate will possess a robust background in civil engineering and materials analysis, demonstrating a history of effective laboratory management and adherence to quality benchmarks.
District Overview
Kiewit's Western Canada District operates from Burnaby, British Columbia, focusing on substantial civil engineering projects that include earth moving, transportation, roadways, bridges, water resources, and underground utilities. We seek dedicated professionals who are passionate about construction and willing to engage in hands-on work.
Location
This position is site-based in Squamish, BC, with potential travel allowances for the selected candidate.
Responsibilities
Laboratory Management:
Supervise the daily functions of the quality control laboratory. Ensure adherence to safety protocols and quality regulations. Maintain and calibrate laboratory tools and equipment. Develop and enforce laboratory policies and procedures.Quality Control:
Formulate and execute quality control strategies and protocols. Conduct assessments on construction materials, including soil, concrete, asphalt, and aggregates. Evaluate test outcomes and compile comprehensive reports. Detect and resolve any quality-related challenges in the construction workflow.Team Leadership:
Mentor and guide laboratory technicians and support staff. Delegate tasks and oversee laboratory operations. Promote a cooperative and efficient work atmosphere.Project Support:
Collaborate with project managers and site engineers to uphold quality standards in construction initiatives. Offer technical guidance and expertise to project teams. Participate in project discussions and provide insights on quality control efforts.Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain precise and thorough records of all testing procedures. Generate and present quality control documentation to management and stakeholders. Ensure all records comply with industry standards and regulations.Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline. At least 5 years of experience in a quality control laboratory within the construction sector, including a minimum of two years supervising quality personnel on construction projects. CCIL certification as a concrete tester is required. Experience with RCC concrete is essential. In-depth knowledge of materials testing protocols and standards (CSA, ASTM, AASHTO, etc.). Strong leadership and team management capabilities. Proficiency in laboratory software and data analysis tools. Keen attention to detail and adept problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Certification as a Quality Manager (CQM) and/or a P. Eng or equivalent is preferred.Other Requirements:
Consistent and reliable attendance. Ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines. Professional communication and interaction with supervisors, colleagues, and others in both individual and team settings. Commitment to safe and effective work practices, including understanding and following instructions and safety protocols. Flexibility to work at various locations and under varying conditions.Compensation and Benefits:
Base compensation ranges from $95,000 to $110,000 annually, subject to variation based on education, experience, skills, and location. Additional compensation may be available depending on project assignments.
