Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Laboratory Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Teaching Laboratories at the University of Toronto. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team of laboratory staff, ensuring the smooth operation of the laboratories, and providing exceptional support to faculty, staff, and students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a team of laboratory staff, including hiring, performance management, and professional development.
  • Oversee the financial management of the laboratories, including budget preparation, procurement, and reconciliation.
  • Ensure compliance with University policies, regulations, and collective agreements.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve laboratory operations and services.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to provide exceptional support and services.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry, or Biology.
  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Biology laboratories.
  • At least two (2) years' experience with managing staff in unionized environments and operating a facility with chemical hazards.
  • Experience with managing various budgets, including headcount, teaching and research equipment, laboratory supplies, and long and short-term projects.
  • Excellent analytical, computer, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Postgraduate degree in sciences.
  • Experience in managing laboratories at the university level.
  • Knowledge of fiscal, human resources, and environmental health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Qualification as a First Aid responder.
