Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Sample Management Associate to join our Laboratory Operations team at Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. As a Sample Management Associate, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratory by managing and tracking samples, maintaining accurate records, and providing exceptional support to our analytical and microbiological laboratories.

Key Responsibilities
  • Sample Management: Collect, receive, and sort samples for analytical operations, microbiology laboratory, business, and project management groups.
  • Documentation Review: Review all accompanying and referenced documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Sample Verification: Verify correct sample testing by reviewing supplementary documentation such as protocols, methods, and specifications.
  • Database Management: Update Laboratory Information Systems (LIMS), electronic sample database, Test Tracker, and other systems to ensure samples are processed for analytical and microbiological laboratories in a timely manner.
  • Sample Prioritization and Processing: Prioritize, process, and forward samples to appropriate testing and storage facilities.
  • Release and Tracking: Generate Analytical Release Folders or Tracking Sheets for testing and update testing and release dates in database.
  • Compliance Support: Provide assistance to Compliance during Annual Product Review process.
  • Environmental Health and Safety: Maintain a safe working environment and report potential hazards.
Requirements
  • Education: Minimum College Diploma in Sciences or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a science-related environment.
  • Equivalency: Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, Word). Excellent interpersonal skills (verbal and written). Ability to multi-task. Detail-oriented and reliable. Works well independently and in a team environment. Proficiency with the English language.
Standards and Expectations
  • Quality Systems: Follow all Environmental Health & Safety Policies and Procedures. Work collaboratively with fellow team members, modeling positive team principles and partnering to meet project and departmental objectives.
  • Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP): Carry out all duties within strict compliance to Patheon quality systems SOP's and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
  • Work Environment: Maintain workspace in a clean and orderly fashion. Actively engage in and adhere to departmental systems in order to maintain a smooth and efficient workflow (visual management, scheduling systems, etc.).
  • Client and Patient Focus: Be client and patient conscious at all times.
  • Continuous Improvement: Understand Key Performance Indicators and strive to improve the performance of the team by identifying areas for system improvements and engage in problem-solving.
Physical Requirements
  • Light Physical Effort: Light physical effort and fatigue. Walks, sits, or stands for limited periods. May require occasional equipment operation including keyboard equipment. Lifts light items for limited duration.
  • Environmental Conditions: Typically located in a comfortable indoor area. There may be regular exposure to mild physical discomfort from factors such as dust, fumes, or odors, temperature extremes, loud noise, strong drafts, or bright lights.
