Senior Manager, Financial Reporting and Control

About the Role
The Senior Manager, Financial Reporting and Control will be responsible for developing and implementing robust operational controls and financial reporting at the scale of Finance. They will serve as a key resource for non-Finance groups seeking to improve and rationalize their approach to operational risk management. They will also be responsible for managing projects and key initiatives across the Finance, Communication, and Policy team to ensure a uniform approach to governance and project execution. Additionally, this leader will be expected to contribute to the development of sustainable and well-established financial reporting processes, including the development of tailored reports and internal controls. They will also be required to be flexible, as they will be expected to support various components of the Finance, Communication, and Policy team as needed. This work may include financial reporting for subsidiaries, producing reports for the CPP Investments group, or executing the internal control program for financial information.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Sustainability Office to advance the sustainability reporting strategy for CPP Investments
- Collaborate with the Sustainability Office to implement controls on data, metrics, and third-party service providers for sustainability, and provide guidance on company-level sustainability data strategies for portfolio companies
- In collaboration with the Financial Control and Reporting team, integrate sustainability metrics into the scope of work of the team
- Collaborate with Finance groups to identify control gaps and contribute to the design and implementation of additional financial controls to address these gaps
- Lead the development of risk matrices and control tables and supporting dashboards for Finance
- Supervise projects or initiatives in their entirety, considering stakeholder needs, promoting adaptability to change, and providing solutions to problems. Participate in initiatives implemented by other services, representing the Finance, Communication, and Policy team's perspective as needed
- Collaborate with Finance partners and internal stakeholders to resolve inter-functional gaps and problems. Propose and implement solutions that align with CPP Investments' unique fund strategy and reflect an understanding of business needs, organizational repercussions, governance, and control mechanisms
- Manage a team of internal and external employees and exercise leadership over team members, providing regular feedback and mentorship to foster a positive, inclusive, and highly effective team culture
- Actively manage and maintain effective external relationships with co-provisioning/partnership providers, external auditors, and industry peers
Requirements
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation from a reputable global professional organization
- Experience working with International Sustainability Standards Board IFRS S1 and S2 standards
- At least ten years of experience in financial reporting in a leadership role
- Be resolutely focused on continuous improvement with a general perspective of creating evolving and normalized processes within a rigorous control framework
- Experience working on projects requiring collaboration with multiple teams to identify and resolve problems
- Demonstrated ability to achieve complex objectives within a team
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and experience presenting and writing reports for various levels of the organization
- Exceptional time management and project prioritization skills, with the ability to respect tight deadlines and adapt to urgent situations
- Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate a team
- Demonstrated ability to succeed in a high-performance culture; open-mindedness and adaptability in a constantly changing context where new challenges arise
- Experience with Oracle Financials General Ledger is an asset
- Demonstrated ability to embody our integrity, collaboration, and performance excellence principles
