The Government of Alberta is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Legislative Counsel to join our team. As a key member of our Legislative Counsel Office, you will play a critical role in drafting high-quality government bills and regulations, providing expert advice to government ministries, and mentoring junior legislative drafters.
Key Responsibilities- Provide expert legislative drafting services to government ministries, including drafting complex bills and regulations in accordance with Legislative Counsel Office standards.
- Offer advice and guidance to government officials on legislative proposals and policy goals.
- Mentor and coach junior legislative drafters to develop their skills and expertise.
- Contribute to the development of legislative drafting resources and best practices within the Legislative Counsel Office.
- Collaborate with other government agencies and stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of government policies and legislation.
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
- Active membership or eligibility for full membership with the Law Society of Alberta.
- Minimum 10 years of legislative drafting experience, with a strong background in drafting complex government bills and regulations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with government officials and other stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and creatively.
