Position Overview:

As an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP), you will serve as a vital patient advocate, engaging effectively with community partners and allied healthcare professionals to guarantee safe and proficient patient care and transportation. Your role will involve the safe operation of emergency vehicles, responding to medical and traumatic emergencies, and facilitating inter-facility transport requests while strictly adhering to professional standards, medical control protocols, and established procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

In your capacity as a Paramedic, you will:

  • Assess emergency scenes and evaluate patients, potentially transporting ill or injured individuals from emergency sites or between healthcare facilities.
  • Operate ambulances or alternative modes of transportation.
  • Administer treatments to patients, including medications, advanced life support (ALS) airway adjuncts, and electrical therapy.
  • Lead the ALS crew in delivering clinical care during patient transport or at emergency scenes.
  • Ensure that ambulances and other Emergency Medical Services (EMS) vehicles are adequately stocked and equipped.

Alberta Health Services EMS mandates proof of successful completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation, which must be conducted via the certificate provided by Lifemark for all applicants external to AHS or internal to AHS who do not currently hold a clinical position within AHS EMS.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must possess:

  • Completion of an accredited Advanced Care Paramedic program.
  • Active registration with Alberta College of Paramedics (ACP) as an Advanced Care Paramedic.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.
  • A valid Class 4 Alberta Operator's Licence with no more than six (6) demerits.
  • Completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation conducted no more than six (6) months prior to application.

Additional Qualifications:

Applications may be considered for various AHS EMS recruitment teams across different communities. Successful candidates will collaborate with patients, their families, and healthcare team members, consulting with other healthcare providers as necessary. Candidates must be capable of lifting and moving patients and equipment and should be prepared to work varied shifts, including days, nights, and evenings.
