MATHESON SWEETS & CATERING is seeking an experienced Executive Chef to join our team. As a key member of our culinary team, you will be responsible for leading the preparation and presentation of our menu items, ensuring high-quality standards are met, and maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Maintain records of food costs, consumption, sales, and inventory to ensure efficient kitchen operations.
- Demonstrate new cooking techniques and equipment to cooking staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.
- Create new recipes to innovate our menu and stay competitive in the market.
- Instruct cooks in preparation, cooking, garnishing, and presentation of food to ensure consistency and quality.
- Prepare and cook complete meals and specialty foods for events such as banquets, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality presentation.
- Supervise cooks and other kitchen staff to ensure smooth kitchen operations and maintain a positive work environment.
- Plan menus and ensure food meets quality standards, taking into account dietary restrictions and preferences.
- Supervise activities of sous-chefs, specialist chefs, chefs, and cooks to ensure efficient kitchen operations.
- 1-2 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in a high-volume kitchen environment.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills to motivate and guide kitchen staff.
- Ability to work under pressure and maintain a calm demeanor in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical stamina to stand for long periods, lift heavy objects, and work in a physically demanding environment.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Fast-paced kitchen environment with tight deadlines and high pressure.
- Physically demanding work, requiring standing, walking, and lifting.
- Exposure to heat, noise, and odors in the kitchen environment.
- Leadership and dependability to motivate and guide kitchen staff.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with staff and management.
- Flexibility and adaptability to work in a dynamic kitchen environment.
- English is the primary language spoken in the kitchen, and proficiency in English is required.
- 30-40 hours per week, with varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
