In collaboration with the Site Manager and the Teck Legacy projects team, the Project Manager for Western Canada will oversee all site field operations at Teck Legacy Properties, which include closed mining sites across British Columbia, Yukon, and Northwest Territories.

This role encompasses various responsibilities, including health and safety oversight, project strategizing, service procurement, contract formulation and management, consultant oversight, and ensuring adherence to project timelines, scope, budget, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as a proactive safety leader, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Champion an inclusive and respectful workplace culture.
  • Manage the planning and execution of site field initiatives, adhering to Teck's standards and project frameworks, which involve scoping, scheduling, risk assessment, and communication.
  • Lead projects from inception to completion, with a commitment to delivering on schedule, within budget, and meeting quality expectations.
  • Participate in the contract lifecycle, including preparation, evaluation, and awarding of contracts, ensuring thorough documentation of scopes of work and proposals.
  • Ensure that all projects receive the necessary authorizations at each lifecycle stage.
  • Guarantee that all project phases are executed safely, minimizing risks to personnel and the environment.
  • Collaborate with technical leads to review project stages, scopes, design criteria, and feasibility studies.
  • Oversee contractor management and provide guidance to external consultants and contractor teams.
  • Coordinate contractor resources, ensuring that all necessary permits and safety plans are established prior to the commencement of work.
  • Lead field programs to ensure compliance with safety practices and project specifications, documenting observations and addressing deficiencies promptly.
  • Ensure adherence to contract management and change control processes as per Teck's protocols.
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including schedules, charters, organization charts, reports, and readiness assessments.
  • Ensure proper handling and archiving of project files in accordance with document control procedures.
  • Conduct lessons learned sessions at the conclusion of projects.
Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 10 years of demonstrated experience in project management within fields such as water management, mining, infrastructure, geotechnical, environmental, or mechanical engineering.
  • Professional accreditation (e.g., RPF, PBio, PAg) or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (PEng) is advantageous.
  • PMP certification is a plus.
  • Field technician and maintenance experience is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and permitting processes in BC, Yukon, and Northwest Territories is advantageous.
  • A degree in Engineering or Science related to Environmental, Mining, Geotechnical, Civil, Mechanical, or similar fields is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of SharePoint is a plus.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
  • Adaptability to changing priorities with strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent communication and technical writing abilities.
