Role Overview:
The Operational Risk Specialist is responsible for supervising, assessing, and reporting on the Operational Risk Management Program at Coast Capital. This role is tasked with developing, executing, and overseeing the operational management framework, which encompasses the practices utilized across the organization to mitigate operational risks. The position delivers policies, standards, methodologies, and controls that enhance transparency, accuracy, and consistency across all departments.

Key Responsibilities:

Generate reports for senior management regarding risks, controls, and risk treatment identified through the Operational Risk Management Program, including Risk Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs), Operational Risk Events, monitoring and testing, and oversight responsibilities. Investigate and report on emerging risks by collecting information from both external and internal sources, and propose suitable strategies for addressing these risks. Actively explore risk management regulations and best practices pertinent to the field. Promote education and facilitate training on operational risk management topics, particularly emphasizing accountability for risk and control ownership at the business unit level and clarifying roles and responsibilities for the Three Lines of Defense. Review and refine Operational Risk Management Program processes, procedures, and tools, engaging stakeholders and communicating updates as necessary. Maintain an inventory of Internal Controls and Process Mapping, detailing key entity and process-level controls for all business units and departments. Provide risk oversight, guidance, and expertise in various operational areas, including information security, project management, third-party management, product and marketing, human resources, back office operations, and information technology. Develop and disseminate training materials relevant to all operational risk management subjects. Collaborate with business units to comprehend and map their processes and associated controls. Review and critically assess information submitted by business units regarding risk and control self-assessments and action plans. Work alongside business units to identify and evaluate risks and controls pertinent to their functions, collaborating with leaders to formulate action plans for risk mitigation. Receive and investigate reports from business units concerning operational risk events, providing guidance and oversight on the identification, classification, and related risk treatment until event resolution. Maintain event data and input operational risk events and issues into Coast Capital's risk management software, including tracking action items.

Candidate Profile:

Bachelor's Degree in business or related fields. A risk designation or the intention to obtain one is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. A minimum of 7 to 9 years of relevant experience in Operational or Enterprise Risk Management, including executing risk assessments, evaluating internal controls, monitoring and testing, incident response, project risk management, and developing risk management frameworks. Advanced proficiency in MS Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Skilled in planning, initiating, executing, and reporting on risk assessments. Proficient in identifying, assessing, monitoring, and developing internal controls. Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills, comfortable interacting with personnel at all levels. Highly organized and self-motivated. Strong workshop facilitation and interpersonal skills. Well-developed problem-solving abilities. Capable of building effective relationships and maintaining a client-focused approach.
