Job Summary

The Manitoba Government is seeking a highly skilled Power Engineer to operate and maintain a 3rd Class Low Pressure Steam Plant at Portage Correction Centre and other locations in Portage la Prairie and Morden, MB.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain Low Pressure Steam Plants in accordance with the Power Engineers Act
  • Perform daily Guarded Status checks and annual inspections for boilers, HVAC, and auxiliary equipment
  • Ensure preventative maintenance and building repair tasks are completed as per the Chief Engineer, Facility Manager, or designates
  • Supervise and provide guidance to Maintenance Assistants, Trades Pool, contractors, and other personnel
  • Assume responsibility for the entire physical plant operation in the absence of the Facility Manager and/or Chief Engineer
Requirements
  • Valid 4th Class Power Engineering Certification recognized by the Office of the Fire Commissioner
  • Valid 5th Class driver's license and ability to travel
  • Ability to produce and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, and Security Check
  • Physical ability to perform duties including working at heights, in confined spaces, crouching, and medium lifting
  • Experience in operating, maintenance, and repair of Low or High Pressure Heating plants and auxiliaries
  • Knowledge of safe work practices, procedures, and relevant safety policies and legislation
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems using standardized rules and established procedures
  • Planning, time management, and organizational skills to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Experience with computers and computerized facility maintenance management systems
  • Interpersonal communication skills and ability to work cooperatively within a team environment
