About the Role

Cowan Insurance Group is seeking a highly skilled Business Development Representative to join our Commercial Lines Sales Team. This role reports directly to the Commercial Sales Manager in Business Development and is responsible for identifying and pursuing sales opportunities for the company.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the sales strategy of the Commercial Lines business, focusing on mid to large organizations.
  • Research and identify prospective clients with existing business relationships and connections.
  • Work with current staff and centers of influence to identify opportunities and plan next steps.
  • Collaborate with senior management on segment strategies to grow brand recognition and net new clients within core industry sectors.
  • Identify new internal and external referral sources and centers-of-influence.
  • Coordinate with Commercial Account Executives and Group Benefits Consultants to schedule new client meetings.
  • Conduct research to identify new markets and customer needs.
  • Arrange business meetings with prospective clients when appropriate.
  • Build long-term relationships both within Cowan and in the community.
Requirements
  • Proven working experience as a Business Development Representative, Sales Executive, or similar role.
  • Knowledge of Insurance and/or Group Benefits is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM software (e.g. Salesforce).
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Experience in identifying and qualifying prospects.
  • Exceptional skills in determining, prospecting, and nurturing suitable target accounts and uncovering business opportunities.
  • Successful in building consistent new pipeline.
  • Ability to build rapport.
  • Time management and planning skills.
  • Analytical skills to translate data into actionable information.
  • BSc/BA in business administration, sales, or relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience with ZoomInfo is an asset.
