Key Responsibilities:

As a strategic leader reporting to the Director of Claim Services, you will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating learning and development strategies within the Group Life and Disability Claims department. Your role will involve the management of comprehensive training programs, focusing on disability payments, claim adjudication, and rehabilitation services, while also enhancing process efficiency.

The essential functions of your position will include:

  • Ensuring departmental effectiveness by managing initiatives aimed at achieving operational excellence aligned with the strategic plan.
  • Developing and overseeing training and coaching programs, as well as metrics for performance evaluation.
  • Implementing quality principles to enhance departmental operations and productivity, facilitating necessary changes for continuous improvement.
  • Gathering, analyzing, and summarizing data for management reporting, including cost-effectiveness assessments of claims and rehabilitation services.
  • Providing insights to the leadership team regarding objectives, business opportunities, and competitive trends.
  • Communicating departmental strategies and ensuring employees have the resources needed to perform their roles effectively.
  • Collaborating with team members to establish individual and team goals, offering coaching and support to achieve these objectives.
  • Ensuring compliance with departmental standards in process improvement initiatives.
  • Assisting team members with complex claims by providing necessary information and guidance.
  • Delivering presentations related to claims and rehabilitation services.
  • Building effective relationships with marketing and insurance representatives, acting as a spokesperson for claims and rehabilitation matters.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of eight years of experience in disability claims, with at least five years in a managerial or supervisory capacity.
  • In-depth knowledge of insurance principles, practices, and contracts, particularly in relation to long-term disability products and claims services.
  • Exceptional organizational, project management, and time management skills to navigate competing priorities.
  • Familiarity with mental health disorders, physical disabilities, and rehabilitation processes.
  • Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Relevant designations such as HIAA, ICA, FLMI, and CCRC are advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  • A university degree in a related field or equivalent credentials.
  • Proficiency in French is considered an asset.
