Head of Platform Engineering

Position Overview: We are in search of a seasoned and proactive Head of Platform Engineering to spearhead our software development initiatives and facilitate the advancement of our platform.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and guide a team of software developers, including contractors, distributed across various time zones, ensuring compliance with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) best practices and quality benchmarks.
  • Oversee the architecture, development, and implementation of our software platform, utilizing Azure Cloud services and adhering to principles of Domain-Driven Design and microservices architecture.
  • Collaborate with the Enterprise Architecture team to assess and enhance architectural designs presented at the Architecture Review Council (ARC), ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and standards.
  • Drive initiatives for continuous improvement to boost platform scalability, performance, and reliability.
  • Establish and uphold effective processes for code evaluations, testing, and deployment automation.
  • Cultivate a culture of innovation, teamwork, and ongoing learning within the platform engineering division.
  • Manage relationships with vendors and third-party partners to supplement development efforts as necessary.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to senior leadership regarding project status, risks, and opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Over 8 years of experience in software engineering, with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership capacity overseeing development teams.
  • Strong expertise in Azure Cloud services, including Azure IAM for user access management and other pertinent Azure technologies.
  • Experience in Agile/Scrum methodologies and familiarity with DevOps practices.
  • Proven history of delivering high-quality software solutions within established timelines and budgets.
  • Experience managing distributed teams and contractors across various time zones.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical challenges.
