Position Overview: This is a full-time union role requiring 35 hours of on-site work each week.

Join a vibrant organization as a Settlement Services Advisor dedicated to supporting refugees and newcomers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducts comprehensive intake assessments to identify client needs, challenges, and strengths, focusing on refugees and newcomers from the Middle East.
  • Utilizes a Case Management approach to provide clients with essential information, referrals, documentation assistance, crisis intervention, and supportive counseling.
  • Facilitates both individual and group orientation sessions covering various settlement-related topics.
  • Offers ongoing information and supportive counseling, crisis intervention, and follow-up services to clients.
  • Connects clients with community and social service organizations for additional support.
  • Promotes and advocates for the agency's programs and services.
  • Collaborates with government entities, community organizations, educational institutions, and volunteers to enhance client services.
  • Maintains accurate administrative records of services provided, prepares necessary reports, and inputs data into COSTI's databases.
  • Performs additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
  • Diploma in Social Service Work or equivalent with relevant practical experience.
  • At least one year of experience in providing settlement counseling.
  • Experience in assisting clients with identifying their long-term and short-term goals and developing comprehensive settlement plans.
  • Proficient in conducting needs assessments addressing various issues such as immigration, basic needs, employment, crisis intervention, and education.
  • Skilled in organizing and leading orientation sessions and support groups on health, financial, safety, housing, and citizenship topics.
  • Experience working with individuals from the Middle East is essential.
  • Thorough understanding of the settlement challenges faced by refugee claimants and new immigrants.
  • Empathetic to the needs of newcomers and knowledgeable about the socio-economic trends affecting immigrants.
  • Experience in completing immigration and government application forms.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and facilitate orientation sessions effectively.
  • Fluency in Arabic, Dari, or Farsi is required.
  • Experience with virtual communication platforms such as Zoom and Google Meet.
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to engage with community organizations.
  • Proven experience in various outreach methods.
  • Ability to manage a heavy caseload and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Proficient in using iCARE database, Internet, Email, and MS Office in a Windows environment.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks independently.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English are mandatory.
  • Must be fully vaccinated or exempt from vaccination on human rights grounds.
