Position Overview

This is a non-union contract role requiring a commitment of 35 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

As a Settlement Support Specialist, you will:

  • Conduct comprehensive intake and assessment to identify the needs, challenges, and strengths of asylum seekers and newcomers.
  • Utilize a Case Management service model to provide clients with essential information, referrals, documentation assistance, crisis intervention, and supportive counseling.
  • Facilitate connections to community and social service organizations for additional support.
  • Collaborate with government agencies, community organizations, educational institutions, and volunteers to enhance service delivery for clients.
  • Maintain accurate administrative records of services provided and activities undertaken, preparing necessary reports and entering data into the organization’s database.
Work Environment

Flexibility is essential, as the role requires availability at various locations and may include evening and weekend hours as needed.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Social Service Worker Diploma or equivalent, complemented by relevant practical experience.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in providing settlement counseling.
  • Skills in assisting clients to define both short-term and long-term objectives while developing effective settlement plans.
  • Knowledge in areas such as immigration processes, basic needs (food, shelter, banking), employment, financial literacy, childcare, housing subsidies, crisis intervention, income support, and education.
  • Experience with the refugee claim process and an understanding of safety measures related to fraud and fire prevention.
Preferred Skills

Preference will be given to candidates who can communicate in languages such as Spanish, Farsi, Swahili, Luganda, and/or Yoruba. Additional language skills are considered an asset.

Technical Proficiency

Proven experience with virtual communication platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, GoToMeetings) is essential. Strong customer service skills and the ability to engage effectively with community organizations are required.

Additional Requirements

Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in using the Internet, Email, and MS Office within a Windows environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are mandatory. Full vaccination against COVID-19 is required.
