Job Description

Job Summary

Halton Healthcare is seeking a highly skilled and organized Unit Clerk to join our team. As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for providing administrative support to our healthcare team, ensuring the smooth operation of our unit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Register patients and maintain accurate records
  • Answer telephone calls and respond to inquiries
  • Complete requisitions and transcribe doctors' orders
  • Schedule appointments and maintain inventory of supplies
  • Prepare stretchers and perform data entry on our computer system
  • Porter patients in wheelchairs and on stretchers as required
  • Perform other administrative tasks as required

Qualifications

  • Medical Office Administration diploma from a recognized college or a minimum of 1 year recent relevant clerical experience in a healthcare setting
  • Medical terminology certificate
  • Grade 12 diploma
  • A minimum of 30 wpm typing speed
  • Fast and accurate computer data entry skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Experience using patient-related databases
  • Ability to prioritize workload and function independently in a busy environment
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good customer service skills
  • Able to diplomatically respond to inquiries from staff, volunteers, patients, family members, and members of the general public
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently
  • Ability to perform the job, which requires prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, and pushing and pulling various wheeled equipment
  • Satisfactory employment and attendance record
  • Previous Emergency experience

  • Ability to manage execution and foster teamwork and cooperation

Working Conditions

The ideal candidate will be able to work in a fast-paced environment, with rotating shifts, including days, nights, and weekends.
