Job Description

The Director of Project Management is a key member of the HEC Group team, responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of major facility expansions, equipment purchases, and installations. This role ensures that projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the project scoping, site planning, permitting, quoting, construction, installation, and commissioning process.
  • Meet with local officials to coordinate permit approvals and ensure all necessary permits are secured prior to construction.
  • Schedule job site projects with completion dates in mind and create and maintain Gantt chart schedules for the entire project, adjusting as needed to ensure timely completion.
  • Coordinate and conduct weekly meetings with contractors to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Schedule job site inspections in accordance with due dates or follow up with contractors if inspections are scheduled by them.
  • Manage all company-hired trades and maintain the latest design on file, ensuring that all work is completed in accordance with company standards.
  • Work with the President and Chief Growth Officer to review contractor drawings and ensure that greenhouses are built to company specifications.
  • In collaboration with the HRBP or H&S Coordinator, prepare the job site H&S plan and maintain all documentation for H&S requirements.
  • Ensure a safe work environment and that company and statutory hygiene, housekeeping, and safety policies and procedures are consistently complied with.
  • Ensure that all contractors are adhering to H&S standards and conduct regular meetings with the H&S committee.
  • Review and approve payment of incoming invoices and review and maintain all project budgets.
  • Meet regularly with the President/CFO or both to ensure that projects remain on budget.
Requirements and Skills:
  • Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Engineering, Business Management, or other equivalent construction/trade background.
  • Demonstrated experience as a greenhouse Project Manager is preferred.
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Analytical thinker able to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to interact with all levels of the organization; Spanish speaking is an asset.
  • Commitment to high professional and ethical standards.
  • Must be an influential leader with a collaborative management style and ability to motivate others.
  • Must possess the drive and energy to fit into a fast-paced, high-growth culture with fluctuating priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly and meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities that allow projects and goals to be completed on time.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
