Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and culturally sensitive individual to join our team as an Indigenous Health Interpreter. This role will provide critical support to patients and families navigating the healthcare system, ensuring effective communication and cultural understanding.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide interpretation services in Cree, Ojibway/Saulteaux, and Oji-Cree languages to facilitate communication between healthcare providers and patients.
  • Assist patients and families in understanding medical information and making informed decisions about their care.
  • Work collaboratively with healthcare teams to ensure cultural sensitivity and awareness in patient care.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners and stakeholders to promote cultural understanding and healthcare access.
  • Participate in ongoing education and training to enhance language and cultural skills.
Requirements
  • Language competency in Cree, Ojibway/Saulteaux, or Oji-Cree languages.
  • General knowledge of medical terminology and ability to interpret fluently.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture and history.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and software applications.
