Compensation Overview:

Our esteemed global financial organization is in search of a Head of Employee Relations for a 12-month contract.

The Head of Employee Relations will oversee an Employee Relations team, primarily responsible for the effective management of workplace risks, ensuring compliance with policies, regulatory requirements, and relevant employment and human rights legislation. This role will provide guidance on employee relations issues, processes, and initiatives, while reinforcing the organization's commitment to integrity and ethical business practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Employee Conduct & Risk Management
  • Direct the management of employee conduct investigations, including Respectful Workplace concerns and breaches of the Code of Conduct.
  • Build and utilize an external network (industry peers, associations, advocacy groups) to gather competitive intelligence and insights on trends.
  • Track regulatory changes, identifying and reporting trends and emerging issues through data analysis.
Advisory Role on Conduct and Employment Matters
  • Supervise the resolution of workplace issues and incidents, including investigations of employee concerns.
  • Advise senior management on sensitive workplace matters, including performance and attendance management.
  • Provide insights on restructuring initiatives, role eliminations, and terminations, collaborating with relevant internal partners.
Monitoring and Reporting
  • Design and implement HR processes to monitor employee conduct, aligning with business conduct monitoring for integrated insights.
  • Enhance analysis of employee misconduct, identifying trends and root causes to provide actionable insights to the business.
Leadership and Development
  • Establish employee objectives that align with team vision and demonstrate commitment to leadership principles and values.
  • Deliver timely, constructive feedback that enhances employee engagement and performance.
  • Support employee development and career progression to strengthen professional capabilities.
  • Encourage a culture of high performance and open communication.
Qualifications:

Essential:
  • At least 8 years of direct experience in Employee Relations, Human Resources, or employment law.
  • Post-secondary education or equivalent experience, preferably in human resources.
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian employment law and regulations.
  • Experience in people management and leadership.
  • Proven ability to align risk management with business and HR strategies.
  • Exceptional relationship management skills with senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated capability to drive results and execute business strategies.
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Effective collaboration skills to engage others towards common goals.
Preferred:
  • Experience in an in-house legal department or law firm.
  • Membership in the Bar of a Canadian province (or equivalent).
  • Experience managing a team of at least three direct reports.
  • Significant experience in conducting workplace investigations.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and French.
