Job Summary

We are seeking a seasoned professional to join our External Engagement team as a Director, Community Relations. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for building trust and support for BC Ferries initiatives, ensuring communities and interested/impacted groups are well-informed and engaged.

The Opportunity

As a Director, Community Relations, you will have the opportunity to leverage your expertise in strategic communications and community engagement to drive business results and enhance our reputation. You will work closely with our Executive Director, External Engagement, and other stakeholders to develop and implement effective community engagement strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic advice and guidance to BC Ferries staff on community engagement and relations
  • Develop and implement community engagement strategies to build trust and support for BC Ferries initiatives
  • Collaborate with advisory groups and panels to nudge behavioral change and introduce new processes, services, and experiences
  • Lead all aspects of community and interested/impacted group outreach, engagement, and evaluation
  • Maintain strong relationships with BC Ferries staff and support the public affairs and marketing team as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Professional Communications, Public Affairs, Public Engagement, or related field
  • Professional designation with International Association of Public Participation (IAP2) or other similar designations
  • 10+ years of experience leading large-scale public participation and external engagements in-person and virtually
  • 1-3 years of experience working with local, provincial, and/or federal governments
  • 4-6 years of supervisory experience, including mentorship, performance management, and people administration
  • Extensive experience in strategic communications and community engagement with a strong understanding of media relations, social media, and marketing principles
  • Understanding of engagement practices, including trauma-informed inquiry, decolonizing practices, and social and accessible equity-based inquiry
