Explosive Operations Specialist

Bedford, Quebec, Canada Municipal Group of Companies Full time

Municipal Group of Companies is a prominent and multifaceted organization involved in various segments of the heavy civil construction sector. We are currently in search of a qualified Driller.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and manage tracked or truck-mounted rotary drilling, air-track, or other drilling machinery to create substantial blast holes at designated depths in open-pit mines, construction sites, or quarry operations.
  • Measure locations and outline the pattern of holes to be drilled, load blast holes with explosives, and initiate detonations to remove coal, ore, or rock.
  • Interpret instructions or diagrams, design drill patterns, and ascertain the depth and diameter of blast holes while conducting field tests to determine the necessary type and quantity of explosives.
  • Assemble or supervise the assembly of primer charges using selected detonators, fuses, detonating cords, and other materials.
  • Load explosives into blast holes manually or oversee the operation of bulk explosives trucks for loading.
  • Connect electrical wires, detonating cords, or fuses in series and link them to blasting machines; activate the mechanism to detonate charges.
  • Handle, store, and transport explosives and accessories in compliance with regulations, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Possession of a Provincial Blasting License Class 1 or Class 2 or relevant Trade Certification.
  • 5-7 years of experience in drilling operations.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and engineering specifications.
  • Team-oriented with a commitment to collaborative work.
  • Ability to operate necessary equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Adherence to all safety policies and procedures is mandatory.
  • Effective communication skills with colleagues and supervisors to ensure project completion.
