As a key member of our heavy civil construction team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient extraction of coal, ore, or rock using drilling and blasting techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Measure and stake out blast patterns, load explosives, and detonate charges to dislodge coal, ore, or rock.
  • Read instructions, lay out drill patterns, and determine the depth and diameter of blast holes, conducting field tests to determine the type and quantity of explosives required.
  • Assemble primer charges using detonators, fuses, detonating cords, and other materials, and load explosives into blast holes by hand or direct the movement of bulk explosives trucks.
  • Connect electrical wires, detonating cords, or fuses into series and connect series to blasting machines, and press the handle or button to detonate charges.
  • Handle, store, and transport explosives and accessories in accordance with regulations, ensuring safety procedures are observed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Provincial blasting license Class 1 or Class 2 or trade certification is required.
  • 5-7 years' experience in drilling and/or blasting.
  • Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Effective communication with co-workers and supervisors to ensure project completion.
  • Working safely is a condition of employment.
