Responsibilities

In the role of Explosive Operations Apprentice, you will become proficient in executing all blast site responsibilities under the guidance of a designated blaster. You will collaborate with a dynamic team focused on assisting in blast design and drill pattern layout. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Gaining expertise in blast design software, GPS technology, and technical instruments for measuring face burdens, borehole deviation, and grade control as part of the design process.
  • Supporting the lead blaster and overseeing all personnel assigned to the blast site.
  • Conducting hazard assessments to ensure a safe working environment for all personnel involved in the blasting operations.
  • Effectively communicating all pertinent information to the blast crew, including a review of the hazard assessment during safety meetings.
  • Verifying that all equipment utilized in operations is in optimal working condition, including vehicles for transporting explosive products.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations, both federal and provincial, regarding personnel operations, product storage, and transportation.
  • Maintaining a precise and current inventory of all products, both explosive and non-explosive.
  • Ensuring adherence to company policies, safe work practices, hazard analyses, and standard operating procedures by all employees.

Qualifications

  • High school completion is preferred, along with substantial experience in related fields.
  • Provincial Blasting License (minimum requirement: enrolled in an apprentice program).
  • Proficient computer skills and effective communication abilities in both verbal and written formats related to the field.
  • A positive, professional, and courteous demeanor is advantageous when interacting with customers.
  • Good physical fitness is necessary, with the capability to repeatedly handle 25-kilogram units.
  • A Class 3 or higher driver's license is beneficial.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is essential; proficiency in French is a plus.
  • A positive attitude, friendly nature, and teamwork spirit are essential qualities.
