Key Responsibilities:
- Operate tracked or truck-mounted rotary drilling, air-track, or other drilling machinery to create substantial blast holes at designated depths in open-pit mining, construction sites, or quarry operations.
- Measure locations and outline the drilling pattern, load blast holes with explosives, and execute detonations to displace coal, ore, or rock.
- Interpret instructions or diagrams, establish drill patterns, and ascertain the depth and diameter of blast holes while conducting field tests to determine the necessary type and quantity of explosives.
- Assemble or oversee the assembly of primer charges using selected detonators, fuses, detonating cords, and other materials.
- Load explosives into blast holes manually or supervise the loading process using bulk explosives trucks.
- Connect electrical wires, detonating cords, or fuses in series and link them to blasting machines; activate the charges by pressing the handle or button.
- Handle, store, and transport explosives and accessories in compliance with regulations, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Possession of a Provincial Blasting License Class 1 or Class 2 or relevant Trade Certification.
- A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in drilling operations.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and engineering specifications.
- A collaborative approach to working within a team environment.
- Ability to operate necessary equipment safely and responsibly.
- Compliance with all safety policies and procedures is essential.
- Effective communication skills with colleagues and supervisors to ensure project completion.
