Child Welfare Specialist

Under the guidance of a Service Supervisor, you will play a vital role in delivering essential Child Welfare services. Your responsibilities will encompass safeguarding children, supporting families, and advocating for their best interests.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough investigations into reports of child maltreatment, ensuring adherence to Ministry standards and regulations.
  • Maintain meticulous documentation of all interactions, assessments, and interventions within client files.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of professionals, including social workers, educators, and healthcare providers, to develop comprehensive service plans for children and families.
  • Provide direct support and counseling services to children, youth, and families facing various challenges, such as abuse, neglect, or mental health concerns.
  • Engage with community resources and stakeholders to connect families with essential services and support networks.
  • Stay abreast of current best practices in child welfare and integrate evidence-informed approaches into your work.
Qualifications:
  • Possess a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree or a related field. Applicants with a Diploma in Social Work may be considered if they demonstrate a commitment to pursuing further education.
  • Minimum two years of relevant experience working in child protection and delivering child welfare services is required for candidates holding a BSW.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and Ministry standards pertaining to child welfare.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
  • Strong understanding of child development, family dynamics, and trauma-informed care principles.
  • Commitment to cultural competency and an anti-oppression framework in service delivery.
