Overview:

Native Child and Family Services of Toronto is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life, well-being, and healing for children and families within the Toronto Indigenous Community. Our mission is realized through a culturally grounded service model that honors the values of Indigenous peoples, the extended family system, and the principle of self-determination. We focus on the integration of holistic, culturally informed prevention services that are centered on the child, family-oriented, and community-driven.

The Cultural Healing Circle is rooted in traditional methods of decision-making, conflict resolution, and healing practices. This approach has been utilized for generations, emphasizing the importance of building positive relationships and fostering connections. The Cultural Healing Circle serves as a collaborative process for assessment and problem-solving, reflecting the agency's vision of self-determination, family empowerment, and overall well-being.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Strengthen the Cultural Healing Circle process within the organization and across various departments.
  • Manage incoming referrals.
  • Conduct outreach to families and perform intake assessments.
  • Prepare and educate families about the Cultural Healing Circle process.
  • Assist in identifying participants and prioritizing issues.
  • Co-facilitate circles alongside Elders to ensure a safe environment for all voices to be acknowledged.
  • Collaboratively develop a mutually agreed-upon plan for future actions.
  • Adhere to provincial and occupational health and safety standards, regulations, and policies.
  • Provide consultation before and after circles with internal staff, ensuring open communication with families.
  • Perform additional duties as required for this role.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills:
  • Deep understanding and practical experience with Indigenous healing approaches, including land-based practices and cultural insights.
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a relevant combination of education and experience working with Indigenous communities.
  • Experience in social services.
  • Extensive knowledge of Indigenous cultures.
  • Strong facilitation skills in leading traditional talking and sharing circles.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities; strong organizational skills; initiative and respect for confidentiality.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of staff, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills, tact, and sensitivity while fostering robust internal relationships.
  • Proven understanding of workplace health and safety practices and the responsibilities of employees under current legislation.
  • Awareness of the unique dynamics present within First Nations, Inuit, and Métis cultures.
