Job Summary

The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is seeking a part-time, permanent Cultural Care Practitioner to provide traditional healing and cultural support services to clients and patients with substance use and mental health concerns.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individual and group-based traditional teachings, spiritual counseling, and cultural support services to clients and patients.
  • Collaborate with the interprofessional team to provide advocacy, consultation, and support to Indigenous clients across the hospital.
  • Work with clients with diverse backgrounds, cultural belief systems, and from various communities, including First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities.
  • Support a harm reduction approach in the treatment of substance use and mental health concerns in a hospital environment.
  • Develop and implement cultural programs and services to meet the needs of Indigenous clients.
  • Contribute to program development, research activities, evaluation, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Provide education and training to staff and students on Indigenous cultural issues and traditional healing practices.
Requirements
  • First Nations, Inuit, or Métis ancestry and recognized as a Cultural Care Practitioner (Traditional Healer, Elder, Cultural Resource, Knowledge Keeper, etc.) by the Indigenous community.
  • At least 7 years of experience providing cultural support to people with substance use and mental health concerns.
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge applying traditional healing practices within a hospital or clinical environment.
  • Ability to conduct ceremonies within regulatory health requirements and according to your protocols, teachings, and culture.
  • Strong therapeutic engagement, conflict resolution, written and verbal communication, group facilitation, and teamwork skills.
  • Experience working with Two-Spirit, 2SLGBTQ+ clients is an asset.
  • Ability to manage time, priorities, and meet administrative deadlines.
  • Computer skills, including regular documentation on an electronic health record system, word processing, electronic communication, and inputting workload measures.
