With three full-service locations and one Express Library, we serve almost 90,000 residents and provide free and equitable access to a wide range of resources, including technology, digital media, and a diverse collection of books, audiobooks, and other materials.
Job OverviewWe are currently recruiting Auxiliary On-Call Library Assistant 2's to support the Circulation team in all aspects of our work. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our libraries and providing exceptional service to our patrons.
Key Responsibilities- Provide excellent customer service to the public, responding to questions and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Circulate library materials, collect payments, and perform other tasks related to the circulation of library materials.
- Register patrons for library membership and assist with daily cash reconciliation and bank deposits.
- Assist patrons with the use of self-service tools and provide technical support as needed.
- Perform opening and closing procedures, including setting up and tearing down library spaces.
- Address problems with multi-function devices and behavioral issues that arise in the public space.
- Flexibility and availability to work at any NVDPL library, including evening and weekend shifts.
- Ability to make customer service a top priority while using good judgment to apply library policies.
- Ability to take initiative, problem-solve, and handle difficult interactions.
- Commitment to service excellence and a willingness to learn and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively, courteously, and effectively with the public and staff in a busy public space.
- Experience working on a circulation team in a public library.
- Experience using an automated library circulation system.
- Comfort level with uncertainty and a willingness to learn and adapt to new situations.
