We are seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused individual to join our Circulation team as an Auxiliary Library Assistant 2. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about delivering exceptional service to the public and contributing to the success of our library.
Key Responsibilities- Provide excellent service to the public, responding to inquiries and resolving issues in a professional and courteous manner.
- Circulate library materials, collect payments, and perform other tasks related to the circulation of library materials.
- Register patrons for library membership and assist with the use of self-service tools.
- Pull, file, sort, and shelve library materials, ensuring that they are accurately cataloged and easily accessible to patrons.
- Assist with daily cash reconciliation and bank deposits, maintaining accurate records and ensuring the security of library funds.
- Perform opening and closing procedures, including setting up and securing the library environment.
- Address problems with multi-function devices and behavioral issues that arise in the public space, demonstrating a commitment to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for all patrons.
- Flexibility and availability to work at any District of North Vancouver library location, including evenings and weekends, with a willingness to adapt to changing schedules and community needs.
- Ability to make customer service a top priority, using good judgment to apply library policies and procedures.
- Ability to take initiative, problem-solve, and handle difficult interactions with patrons and staff.
- Commitment to service excellence, recognizing that the library serves members of the public from all walks of life.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a fast-paced public service environment.
- Ability to take initiative, ask for assistance, and step up to help in a team environment.
- Understanding of and commitment to the principles of intellectual freedom and inclusiveness.
- Completion of Grade 12, along with related experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office and common office equipment.
- Physical capacity to handle heavy library materials and to stand for long periods.
- Experience working on a circulation team in a public library, with a strong understanding of library policies and procedures.
- Experience in using an automated library circulation system, with a willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.
- Comfort level with uncertainty and curiosity to learn more, with a passion for delivering exceptional service to the public.
