Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our team in the Acute Medical Unit. As a critical care registered nurse, you will be responsible for providing direct patient care to patients in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assessment and Care Planning: Conduct thorough assessments of patients to identify their physical, emotional, and social needs. Develop and implement individualized care plans to address these needs and promote optimal patient outcomes.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work collaboratively with the interprofessional care team, including physicians, licensed practical nurses, patient care coordinators, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care planning and delivery.
  • Nursing Interventions: Provide direct patient care through appropriate technical, therapeutic, and safety interventions. Coordinate nursing care for patients, set priorities, assign and delegate tasks to support staff, and make referrals to the interprofessional care team as needed.
  • Patient Education and Support: Teach patients and families about illness prevention, health restoration, and health maintenance to help them achieve their healthcare goals. Assess learning needs and provide information and demonstration of care activities to support self-care and the discharge plan.
  • Documentation and Quality Improvement: Document assessments, nursing diagnoses, observations, interventions, patient/family responses, outcomes/evaluations, and referrals according to practice standards and Fraser Health procedures. Participate in research and quality improvement activities to identify patient care issues, collect data, and identify needs and recommendations for corrective action and changes to practices, procedures, or protocols.

Requirements:

  • Education and Experience: Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Completion of applicable post-graduate coursework or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Skills and Abilities: Ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessment (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide nursing care through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families/caregivers, the public, medical staff, and members of the interprofessional care team using verbal, written, and electronic communication means.
  • Personal Qualities: Ability to promote person-centered care that demonstrates empathy for patients and families/caregivers, sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences, and patient advocacy. Ability to integrate and evaluate data from multiple sources to problem-solve effectively.
