Job Summary

The City of West Kelowna is seeking highly skilled professionals to join our Planning and Development team as Urban Development Specialists. As a key member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, including land use applications, policy development, and long-range planning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Planning and Development team in managing land use applications, ensuring compliance with local regulations and policies.
  • Prepare and implement land use bylaws, policies, and key housing initiatives, working closely with stakeholders and community groups.
  • Lead various in-house policy planning projects and administer consultant-led projects, providing expert advice and guidance.
  • Provide recommendations on policy development through the analysis and interpretation of data, ensuring informed decision-making.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a planning-related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Eligible for membership in the Planning Institute of British Columbia or the Canadian Institute of Planners.
  • Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's License.
  • Strong knowledge of local land use policies and regulations, environmental legislation, and provincial and federal legislation related to planning.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • High attention to detail and superior report writing capability.
