Position Overview: The Senior Financial Manager will report directly to the President of the business unit and will oversee all financial, accounting, and reporting functions within Canada. This role serves as the financial authority and strategic partner to the President, playing a key role in preparing presentations for the board and senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the accounting operations of the Canadian division, ensuring robust internal controls are in place.
  • Prepare and deliver accurate monthly financial statements, including the profit and loss statement and balance sheet, within a three-day timeframe.
  • Conduct performance analysis against planned forecasts and provide insightful commentary.
  • Monitor financial performance on a monthly and quarterly basis, offering recommendations to meet profit targets.
  • Oversee the management and reporting of capital expenditures and fixed assets.
  • Coordinate the annual independent financial audit, managing timelines and preparing necessary documentation for external auditors.
  • Facilitate the creation of the annual operating plan and departmental budgets.
  • Supervise all cost adjustments and assess their impact on inventory and financial statements.
  • Direct physical inventory counts and manage the cycle count program, addressing discrepancies as they arise.
  • Oversee the functions of the Financial Analyst, Junior Accountant, Accounts Payable, Receptionist, and Cycle Counter.
  • Evaluate and mentor direct reports, conducting performance reviews and providing ongoing coaching to cultivate a high-performing finance team.
  • Collaborate with the Operations team to provide financial insights that aid in cost management.
  • Act as the finance lead on projects focused on cost efficiency and operational excellence.
  • Engage in strategic initiatives and perform ad hoc analyses as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Over 10 years of progressive accounting experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • At least 5 years in a leadership role within accounting.
  • Strong understanding of finance and accounting principles, including GAAP.
  • Expertise in cost accounting and inventory management.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel, with experience in handling large datasets.
  • Familiarity with ERP or MRP systems, preferably JD Edwards.
  • Experience with consolidation software, with a preference for Adaptive Insights.
  • Strategic mindset capable of translating complex issues into actionable objectives.
  • Maintain confidentiality to protect the organization's interests.
  • Ability to work autonomously and lead a team with minimal supervision.

Preferred Skills:

  • CPA designation or equivalent experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Canadian GAAP and currency adjustments.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication across all organizational levels.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking abilities.
  • Self-motivated with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized with the capacity to manage multiple responsibilities.

Work Environment:

  • Light lifting may be required (up to 25 lbs).
  • Position may involve standing for extended periods.
