Position Overview:

The Aviation Maintenance Specialist is responsible for conducting first and second line maintenance on the Cormorant Helicopter, playing a crucial role in supporting Canadian Search and Rescue operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute first and second level maintenance on aircraft mechanical, structural, and electrical systems, as well as ground support equipment. This includes servicing, inspecting, removing, cleaning, repairing, installing, adjusting, testing, and certifying aircraft systems and components.
  • Perform ramp duties such as pre/post flight inspections, marshalling, parking, towing, fueling/defueling, and installation of mission equipment, along with responding to aircraft incidents and salvage operations.
  • Conduct ground runs of engines and auxiliary power units, as qualified and authorized.
  • Participate in flights as necessary to support maintenance, ferry, and deployment operations.
  • Travel to various operating bases and remote sites to support operations, including mobile repair parties and ferry flights.
  • Provide on-the-job training to fellow employees.
  • Engage in training for professional development and qualifications.
  • Maintain cleanliness in hangar, shop, and office areas, ensuring a safe work environment.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and directives.
  • Supervise other employees as required.
  • Perform additional duties in support of the CH 149 ISSC as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a recognized aircraft maintenance program or apprenticeship, holding a current Aircraft Maintenance Engineer license, or equivalent experience in the Canadian Forces or commercial sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of aircraft systems, including power plants, flight controls, dynamic systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, environmental systems, and power generation and distribution.
  • Familiarity with special tools and equipment, as well as corrosion control techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, including maintenance manuals and blueprints.
  • Proficiency in standard computer applications and specialized software as necessary.
  • Valid NS Class 5 Driver License with the capability to operate vehicles and support equipment.
  • Commitment to occupational health, safety, and environmental policies.
  • Focus on personal and collective safety, complying with all relevant health and safety legislation.
  • Engagement in continuous improvement and organizational activities.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain necessary security clearances.
  • Eligibility to meet requirements for U.S. International Traffic In Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP).
  • Capability to pass and maintain a Level II (Secret) security clearance with the Department of National Defence.
