About Us:

Community Living British Columbia (CLBC) is a Crown corporation dedicated to facilitating supports and services for adults with developmental disabilities and their families. Our mission is to foster lives filled with possibilities in welcoming communities.

Our Commitment:

CLBC is committed to nurturing strong relationships with Indigenous individuals, communities, agencies, and governments. We aim to:

  • Encourage qualified Indigenous candidates to apply for positions by identifying and eliminating barriers.
  • Build trusting partnerships with Indigenous communities to understand their strengths and needs.
  • Reconnect Indigenous adults living outside their home communities.
  • Enhance the cultural competency of our staff to work effectively with Indigenous peoples.

Position Overview:

As the Indigenous Relations Practice Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in promoting cultural safety within CLBC and shaping strategies for Indigenous community inclusion across the sector. Your leadership will extend province-wide, collaborating with Head Office Departments and Regional Operations to develop innovative strategies that strengthen CLBC's relationships with First Nations, Metis, and Inuit partners, as well as Urban Indigenous agencies and communities.

This dynamic role involves enhancing CLBC's ability to understand and respond to the needs of Indigenous individuals and their families, whether they reside within or outside Indigenous communities. Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating training sessions at the team or regional level.
  • Offering expert knowledge for the implementation of cross-government policy agreements.

Qualifications:

To excel in this role, you should:

  • Be adaptable in your approach, capable of transitioning from support to project leadership, and effectively address local issues.
  • Possess a deep understanding of BC Indigenous issues, including the history and impact of residential schools.
  • Be familiar with the structure and operation of developmental disability supports and services in BC.
  • Understand diverse learning styles and effective communication strategies.
  • Be knowledgeable about Indigenous meeting protocols.
  • Have a grasp of program and policy development.
  • Understand trauma-informed practices and Indigenous-specific anti-racism.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field, along with a minimum of five years of experience working within government systems and with Indigenous communities.
  • An understanding of various jurisdictions is essential.
  • An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.

Travel Requirements:

This position may require occasional overnight travel. A valid class 5 driver's license and a clean driver's abstract are necessary, along with the use of your own vehicle for work-related expenses.

Work Arrangement:

This role offers a hybrid work model, combining on-site office work with the flexibility to work from home after completing a probationary period.

Additional Information:

Team: Indigenous Relations
Status/Term: Auxiliary, with anticipated hours of 70 bi-weekly and a high possibility of extension.
Classification/Salary: Social Program Officer R27, starting at $45.48 annually.
