The Role:
As an Indigenous Relations Practice Advisor, you will lead initiatives aimed at promoting cultural safety within CLBC and influence strategies for Indigenous community inclusion across the sector. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing province-wide leadership in collaboration with Head Office Departments and Regional Operations.
- Developing innovative strategies to strengthen CLBC's relationships with First Nations, Metis, and Inuit partners, as well as Urban Indigenous agencies and communities.
- Enhancing CLBC's capacity to understand and address the needs of Indigenous individuals and families, both within and outside Indigenous communities.
- Offering practice consultation and planning guidance with an Indigenous cultural perspective.
- Coordinating training sessions at the team or regional level and offering expert knowledge for the implementation of cross-government policy agreements.
Qualifications:
To excel in this position, you should possess:
- A flexible approach, capable of transitioning from support to project leadership while effectively addressing local issues.
- A deep understanding of BC Indigenous issues, including the historical context of residential schools and the intersection of disability and culture.
- Familiarity with the structure and operations of developmental disability supports and services in BC.
- Knowledge of diverse learning styles and effective communication strategies.
- Experience with Indigenous meeting protocols, including circles and elder participation.
- An understanding of program and policy development.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and Indigenous-specific anti-racism strategies.
Education and Experience:
Preference will be given to candidates with a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and a minimum of five years of experience working within government systems and with Indigenous communities. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
Additional Information:
This position requires occasional overnight travel and possession of a valid class 5 driver's license. A hybrid work model is available, combining on-site office work with the flexibility to work from home after a probationary period.
