At Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), we honor and recognize the ancestral territories of numerous Indigenous Nations where our services are provided. In our dedication to fostering cultural safety, we aim to formulate policies that reflect Indigenous-specific anti-racism principles. As a Cultural Safety Policy Consultant, you will work alongside diverse teams to ensure that our policies are respectful and safe for all clients, patients, and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate policies through a cultural safety perspective
  • Propose methods to decolonize VCH policy frameworks
  • Research best practices in policy formulation
  • Compose policy documents that promote cultural safety
  • Assist policy leaders in integrating cultural safety measures
  • Assess current policies and suggest improvements
  • Track health system challenges related to cultural safety
  • Oversee projects aimed at enhancing cultural safety
  • Provide specialized knowledge on cultural safety in policy

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • Master's degree in Indigenous studies, law, or a related discipline
  • A minimum of 3 years in policy development
  • Experience working with Indigenous organizations
  • Preference will be given to Aboriginal candidates

Skills & Competencies:

  • Outstanding communication abilities
  • Knowledge of Indigenous rights and relevant reports
  • Understanding of cultural safety and anti-Indigenous racism issues
  • Awareness of Indigenous health challenges
  • Capacity to collaborate and foster relationships
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
