Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building Inspector to join our team at the City of Windsor. As a Building Inspector, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with the Ontario Building Code and related legislation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations
  • Monitor construction and demolition activities to prevent non-compliance
  • Investigate complaints and enforce regulations as necessary
  • Review plans and specifications to ensure compliance with building codes
  • Collaborate with other divisions and agencies to ensure compliance with planning agreements
  • Provide technical guidance and support to contractors, architects, and engineers
  • Prepare detailed reports and documentation of inspection results
  • Represent the City in civil litigation and provide evidence in court as necessary
Requirements
  • Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma plus 3 years of post-secondary education in a related field
  • Provincial Qualifications from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs in relevant areas
  • Valid Class 'G' Driver's License and access to a properly insured vehicle
  • Experience in a computerized office environment and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and related standards
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public
  • Good problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Additional Provincial Qualifications in 'Complex Buildings' and 'On-site Sewage'
  • Current Certificate of Qualification under the Apprenticeship and Tradesperson's Qualifications Act as a sheet metal worker
  • O.A.C.E.T.T. Certification or A.A.T.O. Certification as an Engineering or Architectural Technician or Technologist
  • Membership with the Ontario Building Officials Association along with CBCO designation
