Job Summary

The Track Maintainer is a critical role within the RailWorks Corporation team, responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our railway infrastructure. Reporting to the Track Maintenance Foreman, this position requires a high level of technical expertise and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities
  • Embody a strong safety culture and adhere to industry and company policies and procedures.
  • Repair and/or replace turnout components as needed, including switch points, frogs, and plates.
  • Repair and/or replace track components as needed, including rail, ties, plates, spikes, and timber crossings.
  • Monitor track conditions, track beds, and track right-of-way to detect, report, and repair problems or defects.
  • Operate company vehicles and/or equipment responsibly and ensure all daily maintenance and inspections are completed.
  • Perform special duties as assigned by the Track Maintenance Foreman.
  • Complete administrative tasks related to proper documentation as per the PNR Quality Management System.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Participate in the On-Call rotation for Track Maintenance Department with additional compensation as per the CBA.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 1 year of related experience in the railway industry.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of track maintenance.
  • Track Inspection Guidelines certification is an asset.
  • Certified in Canadian Railway Operating Rules.
  • Ability to apply positive track protection through Track Occupancy Permits.
  • Ability to read and understand specific documents, including schedules, standard railway plans, and specifications.
  • Ability to understand and efficiently carry out instructions.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards, railway engineering safety regulations, and safety precautions of the work being performed.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient use of computers, tablets, etc.
  • Valid Ontario class G driver's license.
Working Conditions
  • Works outdoors and is exposed to all weather conditions, including extreme hot and cold temperatures.
  • Frequently stands, walks, climbs, balances, lifts, bends, and moves objects up to 50 pounds on uneven terrain.
  • Exposed to loud noise.
  • Exposed to live track/trains and high voltage.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain concentration and mental alertness in a variety of situations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
