Job Summary

The Royal Bank of Canada is seeking a highly skilled Associate Director to join our Group Risk Management team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for data and model governance, model inventory management, developing and managing control activities, assessing process completeness and compliance with internal and regulatory standards, and assisting with data and model monitoring activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead Data and Model Governance: Design, develop, and maintain data and model governance frameworks to ensure compliance with relevant Bank standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in Design Sessions: Provide input, gather and document requirements for data and model governance initiatives.
  • Contribute to Enterprise Model Risk Management (EMRM) Submissions: Assist in the development and maintenance of EMRM submissions, including documentation.
  • Lead Governance-Related Activities: As a subject matter expert, lead all manners of governance-related activities, including issue management and the preparation of issue memo closures.
  • Develop Control Frameworks: Design and implement control frameworks, guidelines, and procedures to ensure effective data and model governance.
  • Design and Implement Controls: Develop and implement controls and quality assurance tools to ensure data and model integrity.
  • Assist in Model Monitoring Reports: Assist in the development and maintenance of model monitoring reports to ensure timely identification of potential issues.
Requirements
  • Quantitative Background: Degree in a quantitative field of study (e.g., Statistics, Finance, Economics, Computer Science).
  • Programming and Querying Languages: Expertise in programming and querying languages (e.g., SQL, Python).
  • Data Management and Risk Concepts: Strong knowledge and experience in data management, model governance, and risk concepts.
  • Model Risk Management Framework: Prior working experience with model risk management frameworks, quality assurance frameworks, risk mitigation, and issue remediation.
  • Data Quality Controls: Strong knowledge of data quality controls and procedures documentation.
  • Effective Communication: Effective communication and presentation skills (written and verbal).
  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt to a constantly evolving and fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to Detail: Commitment to quality and accuracy with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Strategic Thinking: Strategic thinking skills with proven ability to drive results in a cross-functional environment.
  • Organizational Awareness: Strong organizational awareness, demonstrated ability to anticipate risks and issues and escalate when required.
