Position Overview:

Blizzard Entertainment's acclaimed Cinematics Department is seeking a Principal Digimatte Artist. In this role, you will be instrumental in creating stunning, fully rendered environment shots that span our diverse intellectual properties and artistic styles. Your responsibilities will include everything from crafting detailed 3D visuals to enhancing landscapes, extending sets, projection painting, and designing sky domes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, enhance, and refine environment visuals utilizing a blend of 2.5D and 3D Digimatte techniques and workflows.
  • Apply a discerning eye to the creation of 3D assets, focusing on Look Development (modeling, sculpting, texturing, LOD baking, and lighting) to finalize rendered shots across various artistic styles.
  • Expertly integrate and composite 2D photographic references with 3D rendered elements to produce photorealistic frames.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members to complete individual elements or entire finalized shots.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of camera and lens dynamics to enhance shot composition.
  • Manage complex scenes efficiently, optimizing them for peak rendering performance.

Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Proficient in 3ds Max and Nuke within a professional setting (Game Studio, VFX/Animation Studio).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in AAA game cinematics or the VFX/Animation industry.
  • Familiarity with software such as Maya, VRay, Redshift, Zbrush, Mudbox, Speed Tree, GrowFX, Forest Pack, World Machine, Gaea, Photoshop, Substance, and Quixel Studio.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Ability to work autonomously from provided concepts.
  • Strong communication skills to articulate your creative process.
  • Collaborate with artists, supervisors, and production teams to address concerns and propose solutions to meet our shared vision.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Experience in leading projects and representing the team in dailies, collaborating with creative leadership across multiple IPs to fulfill the show vision within established parameters.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with Blizzard's intellectual properties and their associated lore.
  • A passion for painting, sculpting, photography, and filmmaking.
