About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join our team as a Cultural Program Coordinator at the Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced, client-oriented organization that models the Indigenous values of balance, respect, and community interdependence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement memorable cultural programs and events from conception to completion, ensuring alignment with our seasonal calendar.
  • Identify and collaborate with traditional knowledge keepers and cultural facilitators, including Elders, dancers, beaders, and drummers, to deliver high-quality programs and events.
  • Coordinate logistics, including facilities, decor, food, entertainment, transportation, and location, to create a welcoming environment for all attendees.
  • Work closely with our Communication Team to create promotional materials, website updates, and social media posts to promote our cultural programs and events.
  • Maintain a cultural calendar of events that coincides with traditional seasonal activities and engages volunteers to support programming and community development.
  • Collaborate with other Wabano departments to deliver joint cultural programming and activities, and produce program reports and evaluations.
  • Attend cultural events in the community to identify potential facilitators and guest speakers for programs and promote Wabano's cultural initiatives.
  • Maintain a database of contacts for guest speakers and cultural facilitators, and manage cultural supplies inventory.
Requirements
  • Must be of First Nation, Inuit, or Métis descent (please self-identify).
  • Proven experience as an Events Planner or Organizer, with a strong understanding of Indigenous cultural teachings, protocols, and ceremonies.
  • Advanced organizational and coordination skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and work effectively with Indigenous communities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), and problem-solving ability with sound judgment.
  • Ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision, and a clear criminal reference check to work with vulnerable populations.
Assets
  • Cultural skills, such as beading, traditional dancing, or drumming.
  • Certification in Events Planning or a related field.
  • Experience providing cultural workshops, activities, programs, or other Indigenous events.
  • Post-secondary completion in a relevant field, such as Indigenous Studies, Communications, or Social Sciences.
