Job Summary

The City of Ottawa's Recreation, Cultural and Facility Services department is responsible for building a healthy, inclusive and vibrant community. As a Program Specialist, Arts and Culture, you will play a key role in ensuring that communities, residents and visitors have access to the recreation and cultural places, programs, events and services that allow them to experience all the benefits the City has to offer.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise the day-to-day activities of an arts program within a specialized arts venue.
  • Design, develop, implement and evaluate a program (theatre, dance, music, visual, literary, and/or media arts) within a specialized arts venue.
  • Administer and respond to public inquiries.
Requirements
  • Completion of college or university arts-related studies program and/or practicing in one of the following disciplines: music, dance, theatre, visual arts, literary arts, media arts, or arts education.
  • Current Standard First Aid, CPR and/or AED certificates.
  • AODA Customer Service/IASR Training.
Competencies, Skills and Abilities
  • Very good oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Training and/or instruction skills.
  • Sensitive to the needs of various age groups and their learning ability.
  • Ability to use program-specific tools and equipment.
  • Completion of health and safety training required by legislation and by the Corporation of the City of Ottawa.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coordinate and supervise staff.
  • Organized, efficient and productive.
  • Flexibility and ability to work in a changing work environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Language Requirement

Various language requirements, locations may require English only, French only OR Bilingual competencies. Some positions require English oral, reading, and writing. Some positions require French oral, reading and writing.

Police Record Check

The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa's satisfaction.
