Position Overview:

Located in the Ottawa area, the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Consultant will report to the Ontario Health and Safety Regional Manager and provide support to AIM's Recycling and Kenny U-Pull operations across the Ottawa & Gatineau Region, Cornwall, Pembroke, and soon in Kingston. The role involves close collaboration with the Ontario OHS team and Site Managers to effectively plan, organize, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate OHS activities related to incidents, Safe Return to Work initiatives, and Occupational Disease prevention.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fostering the ongoing enhancement of the OHS culture among all levels of management and staff.
  • Advising and collaborating with management on strategic OHS initiatives, programs, procedures, and tools.
  • Conducting regular inspections of the workplace and work practices to ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards.
  • Performing occupational risk assessments and recommending preventive measures.
  • Investigating and analyzing work-related incidents in partnership with management.
  • Supporting and auditing the effectiveness of preventive measures.
  • Engaging with regulatory bodies and third parties for inspections or investigations.
  • Responding to inquiries from employees and internal/external stakeholders regarding occupational health and safety.
  • Planning and conducting internal training sessions and monitoring the completion of mandatory OHS training.
  • Tracking and reporting on various OHS metrics and key performance indicators.
  • Conducting orientation sessions for new employees and participating in onboarding activities as necessary.
  • Assisting in the implementation of corporate OHS programs, policies, and initiatives.
  • Providing guidance to the site Health and Safety Committee.
  • Performing additional related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a college diploma or university certification in a related field.
  • At least five years of experience in a similar role.
  • Bilingual proficiency in French and English is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario and Quebec occupational health and safety laws and regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional planning, organizational, and adaptability skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail is crucial.
  • Technical expertise gained in an industrial manufacturing context.
  • Ability to manage multiple files and tasks concurrently.
  • Demonstrated initiative, autonomy, and a customer-focused approach.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively in high-pressure environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a creative approach to challenges.
  • Maintain confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
