Position Overview:

Located in the Ottawa area, the Health and Safety (H&S) Advisor will report to the Ontario Health and Safety Regional Manager and provide support to AIM's Recycling and Kenny U-Pull operations in the Ottawa & Gatineau Region, Cornwall, Pembroke, and soon Kingston. The role involves close collaboration with the Ontario H&S team and Site Managers across various support areas, ensuring effective planning, organization, coordination, monitoring, and evaluation of H&S activities related to incidents, Safe Return to Work, and Occupational Disease prevention.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fostering the ongoing enhancement of the H&S culture among all management and staff.
  • Consulting, collaborating, and assisting managers with strategic H&S initiatives, programs, procedures, and tools.
  • Conducting regular inspections of workplaces and work practices to ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards.
  • Performing occupational risk assessments and recommending preventive measures.
  • Investigating and analyzing work-related incidents in conjunction with management.
  • Supporting and evaluating the effectiveness of preventive measures.
  • Engaging with regulatory bodies and third parties for inspections or investigations.
  • Responding to inquiries from employees and internal/external clients regarding occupational health and safety.
  • Planning and delivering internal training sessions, ensuring completion of mandatory H&S training.
  • Tracking and reporting on various H&S metrics and key performance indicators.
  • Conducting orientation sessions for new employees and participating in onboarding activities as necessary.
  • Assisting in the implementation of corporate H&S programs, policies, and initiatives.
  • Advising the site Health and Safety Committee.
  • Performing additional related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a college diploma or university certification in a related H&S field.
  • At least five years of experience in a similar role.
  • Bilingual proficiency in French and English is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario and Quebec's occupational health and safety laws and regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and adaptability skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail is crucial.
  • Technical expertise gained in an industrial manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to manage multiple files concurrently with diligence.
  • Demonstrated initiative, autonomy, and a customer-focused approach.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in high-pressure environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a creative approach to challenges.
  • Maintain confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
